A Hidden Gem of Alaska!
Hyder, Alaska, nestled in the stunning wilderness of the Tongass National Forest, is a place of rugged beauty and rich history. Situated at the head of the Portland Canal, a fjord stretching over 70 miles from the Pacific Ocean into the heart of the Coast Mountains, Hyder boasts a breathtaking landscape of towering mountains, cascading waterfalls, and pristine forests.

The town's history is intertwined with the Klondike Gold Rush of the late 19th century when prospectors flocked to the area in search of fortune. Though Hyder itself didn't experience a gold rush, it became a supply point and staging area for miners heading into the nearby goldfields. The remnants of this era can still be seen in the old mining equipment and cabins scattered throughout the surrounding wilderness.

Today, Hyder is perhaps best known for its unique location and for its abundant wildlife, including bears, eagles, and salmon, making it a haven for nature enthusiasts and photographers.

Despite its small size and remote location, Hyder has a lot of visitors each year who are drawn to experiance Alaska at it's finest!
Visitors can immerse themselves in the wild beauty of the surrounding landscape. Whether you're drawn to its rich history, stunning scenery, or for the adventure, Hyder offers a truly unforgettable experience.

We stayed one night here and really enjoyed the quietness of the campground. Very easy pull through sites and clear skies for your Starlink! I probably had the best shower I’ve had in weeks! The new owner is making lots of improvements to this long-standing campground and was a real pleasure to work with!

Campground is owned by a lovely family who has worked hard to improve the property. Despite the remote location, there are amenities such as electric and water hookups, free wifi that works, flush toilets, a small shop, coin-operated laundry, and coin-operated showers. There are some nice wooded sites and a cool pond with beavers.

Wonderful beautiful campground! Very nice owners. Beautiful pond with a boat to use! Full hookups. Beautiful drive to salmon glacier just up the road, bear watching in fish creek! Highly recommend staying here!!
